Starting as a foster carer

In the first few weeks and months, there is always someone to turn to when you need advice, guidance or a helping hand. We offer you:

  • high quality ongoing training. We offer bespoke training to meet the individual needs of each carer. Whatever your aspiration, we can provide the development tools you need to achieve it
  • 24 hour local support. From social workers, to psychologists and mental health coordinators, we make sure our support wraps around you, your foster child and your whole family
  • generous financial allowances. We pay our foster carers extremely competitive rates with plenty of added benefits. On average, our foster carers earn £504.71 per week

As your foster journey continues, your needs and the needs of your foster children change. Our support shifts along with your role. This includes:

  • helping you join and participate in local Essex foster carers networks so you support each other
  • we organise regular breaks during the placement so you can recharge. We offer focused training and learning opportunities to improve your skills over time
  • supporting you during the transition of a child leaving your home. This can happen for a range of reasons from the situation with the birth parents stabilises or they become adults and become independent

Foster carers can access a comprehensive network of support.

"The support we have received from Essex County Council has been great. When we needed it, our supporting social worker was right there with advice and guidance."
