This National Early Years Teacher Day, we are encouraging people to think about a career in early years and childcare.
Working with children is a great choice for people who want to make a difference and have a fulfilling job. The sector welcomes people from many career paths as the skills can be transferable.
Abbie Dennis, 21, stepped into early years as she knew the first five years of a child’s life are vital for their development.
She says: “We educate children on how to have patience, socialise with their peers and adults, and how to manage their emotions. We support them with their first steps and their first words. It’s definitely rewarding to work with children and it’s satisfying to see them hit their milestones.”
Abbie recently completed an apprenticeship at Munchkins Nursery, Dunton Park. She is delighted to see the effect she is already having on the children. She said: “Working in early years is not babysitting. We teach children vital skills that help them to develop.
She’s also looking forward to a lasting career in early years. Abbie explained: “I can see this being a lifelong career. I recently completed my apprenticeship. I’m looking forward to starting my special educational needs training next month. I’m hoping to take on the role of special educational needs co-ordinator in the future.”
We offer a wide range of early years courses. There are also different funding options to help people progress in their career.
