Projects we're involved in to reduce our impact on the environment

Essex Schools' Climate Action Network (ESCAN)

ESCAN is a network of students and teachers championing climate action across Essex. The network’s primary focus is to get young people involved with climate action. The goal is to have student ambassadors representing each school, college or sixth form in Essex.

Student ambassadors will be able to create their own climate action projects within a school environment. They will also have the opportunity to work together with students from other schools across Essex. There is no limit to the number of students who can be ambassadors. New ambassadors are welcome to join throughout the academic year.

The Network aims to meet at least three times a year. Meetings take place online and give Ambassadors the chance to discuss ideas of best practice with their peers. They are an opportunity to organise climate action projects and activities. There will also be guest speakers who are experts in climate action and the environment.

The ESCAN virtual launch event took place on Monday 16 September 2024. You can watch a recording of the launch event on YouTube, including the keynote by Lord Zac Goldsmith.

The network will be supported by Essex County Council and the Essex Climate Action Commission.

The Essex Pathway

The Essex Pathway project was developed in collaboration with Community Energy South. It offers free support to help develop community energy groups and projects in Essex.  This includes projects looking at:

  • renewable energy
  • energy efficiency
  • fuel poverty

By boosting these community energy projects and groups we aim to help them find national recognition for their success.

This work is funded by 2 Seas as part of their European partnership, Local Energy Communities across the 2 Seas Region. This partnership is about:

  • developing community energy
  • helping community members drive local climate action

South East New Energy project

We're a partner of the South East New Energy (SENE) project whose primary goal is to accelerate the transition to a low carbon economy.
