Ford RideLondon returned to Essex for a third year from 24 – 26 May 2024.
The first two days welcomed professional female riders as part of the Ford RideLondon Classique.
Stage one started in Saffron Walden and finished in Colchester. Stage two started and ended in Maldon. Lorena Wiebes of The Netherlands won both stages.
On Sunday 26 May the mass participation event took place in London and Essex. Over 20,000 riders took part in the 100-, 60- or 30-mile challenge on traffic free roads.

Inspiring Activity
The London Marathon Foundation (LMF) has awarded £1.75 million to Active Essex to support community and inclusive cycling initiatives in Essex since May 2022.
In May 2024 the London Marathon Foundation announced an additional award in principle of £500,000 to continue supporting communities across Essex to lead active and healthy lives. This brings the Foundation’s total funding awarded in Essex to £2.25 million.
New study shows positive benefits of Ford RideLondon
A new report has found that Ford RideLondon inspires the people of Essex onto their bikes and adds hundreds of thousands of pounds to the local economy.
Results show that in 2023 Ford RideLondon resulted in:
- increased levels of physical activity among those taking part
- increased levels of physical activity among spectators
- residents of the county said they felt proud of the event being hosted in Essex
- an estimated £5 million was raised for charity
- an estimated £5.28m in economic activity from participants, spectators and organisers in Essex and London.
The study was undertaken by Sheffield Hallam University’s Sport Industry Research Centre.
