New woodland habitat in Chelmsford

A group of our officers have planted 1,000 new trees over two days in Chelmsford.

They were also joined by our Climate Czar, Councillor Peter Schwier.

The new trees will create a new woodland habitat just outside of Chelmsford.

Volunteering their time, they planted willow, alder and oak trees as part of our Essex Forest Initiative.

We launched this initiative in 2019 with a goal of planting 375,000 new trees.

So far 412,000 trees have been planted with over 51 kilometres of hedgerows.

Trees planted by the Initiative provide habitats for wildlife, increasing biodiversity.

The trees also provide residents with more green spaces across the county.
