We have secured £7.3 million to improve walking and cycling across Essex.
We have worked with local councils since 2020 to design a network of over 400 walking and cycling routes.
This new investment from Active Travel England will be used to:
- deliver new walking and cycling schemes
- maintain existing active travel provision
- offer more community training, such as Bikeability for school children
We will now explore how to best allocate the funding for the biggest impact and value for money.
Councillor Tom Cunningham, our Cabinet Member for Highways, Infrastructure and Sustainable Transport, said: “I’m committed to giving everybody a safer, greener and healthier choice in how they travel.
"Whether our residents walk or cycle for shorter journeys, as part of a longer trip or decide to drive one day and walk the next, we want them to have choices."
