First Essex County Council residential electric vehicle chargers installed

The first of several electric vehicle chargers, funded by a government grant, have been installed. The chargers are located in Chelmsford and Colchester.

£236,000 from the grant will go towards installing at least 60 charging points. These will be in locations identified by residents.

It is hoped the charging points will help encourage more residents to swap to an electric car. Particularly those who may not have access to off-street parking.

The council’s electric vehicle charge point strategy prioritises installing the right charger in the right place. This means they will be in locations that are accessible and will benefit several residents.

The strategy complements the council’s net zero ambitions. It provides vital infrastructure, while continuing to support residents to walk and cycle on shorter journeys.
