Greater Essex's economy, investor-ready projects and business landscape were showcased at special event.

Our Essex: County of Growth and Opportunity event took place in the House of Commons on Monday 3 March. It brought together key business leaders, educators, MPs and investors.

Essex is a £50 billion economic powerhouse with an economy the same size as that of Northern Ireland. The county is home to over 94,000 businesses, employing more than 740,000 people.

With two international airports, two Freeports and excellent transport links, Essex is a gateway to trade and investment. With major investments already underway the region is primed for significant growth.

The event also explored Essex’s strengths in key growth sectors, including:

  • advanced manufacturing
  • construction
  • clean energy
  • digital technology
  • life sciences

Speakers at the event were:

Councillor McKinlay said: "Essex is a thriving, entrepreneurial, and creative region with an unparalleled economic offer.

"Our businesses, infrastructure, and strategic location make us an investment-ready destination. With billions already being committed, we’re seeing real momentum, and with the right partnerships and backing, this is just the beginning.

"This event was about showcasing Essex’s vast opportunities and demonstrating to Government and business leaders that we are ‘open for business’ and ready to deliver growth.

"For business leaders, investors and policymakers, Essex is open and together we are determined to deliver the next wave of economic success for the area."

The event also highlighted the findings from a new year three report on our Levelling Up programme.

The report details how a range of projects have impacted communities in Essex. Over the past three years, more than 140,000 residents have benefitted.
