We are investing £14.8 million to help expand Plume Academy in Maldon.
The expansion will create an extra 300 places at the school over the next three academic years. Less pupils will need to travel out of town as more Year 7 pupils get their first choice school place.
Councillor Tony Ball, Cabinet Member for Education Excellence, Lifelong Learning and Employability said: “This expansion will provide much needed secondary school places in an area that is rapidly growing.
“We are committed to ensuring every pupil in Essex has access to a high-quality education and working with Plume School Academy Trust on this project will ensure more pupils in and around the area can benefit.”
The lower school work will complete in September 2025 and upper school in September 2026. The plan is to create 60 new places for Year 7 pupils for the 2025/26 academic year.
