Free careers and training event for young people

A young female sits at a desk while a male colleague stands next to her looking at papers.

Our youth movement, We Rise, is back with a free careers event – ‘Get Sorted’ - for 16 to 25 year-olds. The event is open to those who have recently received their exam results and are wondering what to do next. It will take place at 11am on Friday 13 September at the Basildon Centre.

This is the third Get Sorted event, which is being hosted in partnership with Basildon Council and Pathways. It will give young people across Essex a chance to meet training providers and speak to careers advisors and career mentors. It is open to those who have recently finished exams, left school or who are unemployed and looking for help with their next steps.

Attendees can find out about local opportunities, training programmes, apprenticeships, courses and jobs. Training providers and employers who will be there on the day, include:

  • Adult Community Learning Essex
  • Vocational Training Services
  • TCHC Gaps
  • USP College
  • the council’s Special Educational Needs and/or Disabilities (SEND) Information Advice and Guidance team
  • Essex Youth Service employability and skills team
  • Morgan Sindall
  • Essex Police

The team from the newly launched Apprenticeship Hub will also be available. The team can guide young people through the apprenticeship process and help them to find a suitable placement. They will also be offering free careers and application advice on the day.

We Rise launched in Canvey in the summer of 2023 and is now expanding across south Essex. It is a youth movement led by young people and supported by us. It identified barriers to finding work and courses for young people. The Get Sorted event aims to remove some of those barriers by bringing young people face-to-face with the people who can help.

The event will take place at the Basildon Centre, St Martin’s Square, Basildon, SS14 1DL

There is no need to register in advance. For more information, visit the event page or contact louise.fry@essex.gov.uk
