Digital Essex celebrates two years of helping residents get online

Our Digital Essex programme is celebrating two years of helping Essex residents and business get online.

The programme aims is to make sure no individual or business is excluded from digital opportunities.

Reasons for digital exclusion include:

  • lack of high speed internet
  • non- affordable broadband connections
  • barriers in equipment or gaining skills

Digital Essex has worked to support residents with their digital skills by launching:

  • The Digital Exclusion Risk Indicator (DERI) Tool
  • The Digital Help Finder
  • A Digital Champion Programme
  • Device donations and recycling

Digital Essex has also been a leading voice in several digital awareness campaigns. This has included raising awareness of social broadband tariffs.

Social broadband tariffs are deals for residents receiving Universal Credit.

We were also the first local authority to run an awareness campaign for the digital telephone switchover.

Because of this, we were chosen to lead a digital inclusion panel at the Local Government Association Annual Conference.

The panel explored how local councils can support residents in the digital age.
