Defences available for homeowners in flood risk zones

A man wades through a flooded and damaged house.

You could receive up to £8,000 in defences if your home is prone to flooding.

The Property Flood Resilience Grant is being delivered by our partners Lakeside Flood Solutions.

It’s available for Essex homeowners who have or may experience flood water entering their homes.

Flood defences can include:

·         self-closing air bricks

·         reinforced doors

·         non-return valves

·         pumps

·         flood barriers

These measures help prevent water entering homes and mitigate water damage.

So far, Lakeside Flood Solutions has installed defences in 196 properties across Essex. This includes an end-to-end service.

Homeowners are asked to contribute to the cost if defences go above the £8,000 afforded by the grant.

The grant comes as UK Climate Projections expects average winter rainfall to go up by 35% by 2070. Rainfall intensity is also expected to increase by 25%.

This year, East Anglia saw its wettest February since 1836. England as a whole saw its eighth wettest winter since records began.
