Pat Reid was elected to Essex County Council in a by-election yesterday in the Laindon Park and Fryerns division.
The result was as follows:
Pat Reid, Labour, 2,748
Terri Sargent, Conservative, 1,890
Oliver McCarthy, Green, 445
Mike Chandler, Liberal Democrat, 444
Cllr Reid was elected with a majority of 858 votes. Cllr Reid will join the Labour group on Essex County Council.

As this by-election resulted in a Labour hold, the make-up of Essex County Council, 75 councillors in total, is unchanged, standing at: Conservative, 52, Liberal Democrat, 8, Labour, 5, Non-aligned Group 10 (including Green Party, 1, Canvey Island Independent Party, 2, Residents for Uttlesford, 2, Rochford District Residents, 1, Independent Loughton Residents Association, 1, Independents, 3).
