Love Essex has relaunched its award-winning Love Your Period campaign. The campaign asks residents to take small steps to cut out single-use period waste. Making this change helps the environment and also saves residents’ money.

Period products are essential for 18 million people in the UK. On average, single-use sanitary towels and tampons cost around £130 a year. Over a lifetime this amounts to around £5,000.

Single-use period products are not recyclable. Often, they contain plastic and can take hundreds of years to breakdown in landfill. Also, many period products are flushed down the toilet, contributing to sewage blockages.

The Love Your Period campaign asks residents to take the “period pledge”. Supporting them to cut down the amount of single use products they use. Since the campaign launched in 2021, 1,500 Essex residents have made this commitment.

Residents who sign the pledge can enter a free monthly prize draw. Prizes include vouchers, hampers, and reusable period products.
