Advice and support around special guardianship.

How it can help

A Special Guardianship Order (SGO) is a legal order applied for and granted by the courts. It allows special guardians to offer a permanent home to a child without adopting and gives parental responsibility of the child.

There is available advice and information online which provides support with:

  • applying to become a special guardian
  • assessment and preparation training
  • support for special guardians
  • planning for the future
  • additional support and resources

The support available for special guardians:

  • advice on welfare benefits
  • grants and bursaries
  • support with form completion
  • family therapy
  • therapeutic life story work
