Applications started on, or after 28 January 2025

This guidance is for people who are applying on, or after 28 January 2025. Here you can complete your application, upload documents, track progress and pay for your badge.

How to apply or renew

From 28 January 2025 the steps to apply for a new badge or renew a badge are the same.

These are the steps to follow if you wish to apply, or re-apply for (renew) a Blue Badge. You can apply for yourself or on behalf of someone else.

(If you are applying on behalf of an organisation, you need to complete a different application form).

We advise you to check the eligibility requirements and supporting documents, prior to starting your application.

Step 1 - Complete your application online

This link will take you to the application form on GOV.UK:

Apply for or renew a Blue Badge

If you are applying on behalf of someone else, you need to answer the questions about the applicant.  You also need to give your contact information, plus the applicant's contact information.  This is so we can check with the applicant that you are authorised to act on their behalf.

What happens next

When you submit your application online, you will get a confirmation email to let you know the application has been submitted successfully.

If you need to go back to the form, follow the instructions to return to a saved application.

We'll normally be in touch within 6 weeks of you applying. It can take up to 12 weeks to fully process your application. This is because we may need you to attend a mobility assessment or require further evidence from you.

If we've requested further or new evidence, you can upload this to your application by logging in to your account.

You can also track the progress of your application at any time on the Blue Badge portal (see below).

Step 2 - Register for the Blue Badge application portal

The Blue Badge portal allows you to:

  • track your application status
  • upload additional documentation
  • pay for your badge

It's free to apply for a Blue Badge. There's a £10 fee to cover the cost of producing a badge if you're successful. Please be aware of Blue Badge scams where you may be charged more than £10 for an application. These websites are not associated with the Blue Badge service and the application form supplied by these websites is not accepted by local authorities.
