Pupils across Essex will receive their GCSE results today (Thursday 25 August).
This year marks the first time formal exams have taken place since 2019 due to the impact of the Covid-19 pandemic.
The past two years’ grades were assessed by teachers with grades based on a range of evidence, including mock exams, coursework and in-class assessments.
Cllr Tony Ball, ECC Cabinet Member for Education Excellence, Lifelong Learning and Employability, has praised students for their hard work during another year of disruption to their education.
He said: “The past two years have been incredibly difficult for students as they’ve dealt with significant challenges and upheaval to their education. I am extremely proud of how pupils have adapted and the way in which education colleagues have continued to support them through these difficult circumstances.
“I want to wish everyone who has collected their results today the best in whatever they decide to do next.
“As a council, we remain committed to ensuring all pupils in Essex receive the best possible education and continue to work very closely with schools to ensure this is the case.”
Due to the new system and process in place, this year we are not publishing our usual headline figures. We will not be making judgements on schools’ performance based on 2022 results data. However, pupils across Essex should be very proud of what they have achieved.
The National Careers Service - telephone 0800 100 900, open 16 to 30 August from 8am to 10pm - and school or college career advisers can provide information, advice and guidance to students.
If a student is not happy with their results in some subjects, they have the options to appeal their results or retake their exams in those subjects.
Young people who are feeling worried about what to do next or overwhelmed by leaving school and starting university, are encouraged to find out about the local wellbeing support available.
Adult learners who attend ACL Essex are also collecting their GCSE results today.
New GCSE courses at ACL will commence in September. English and maths GCSEs are free to those people who do not currently hold a grade (A*-C/ 4+) in the subject already. Those interested can call 0345 603 7635 or visit the ACL website.
