Preserving local stories for future generations in Essex

We want to archive the stories of Essex communities for future generations to discover.

The National Lottery Heritage has invested £60,000 in the Essex Record Office. This will go towards our project Open the Box: Connecting Communities Through Archives.

This project will record the heritage and experiences of people in Essex today. It could include photographs, diaries, posters, flyers, records, reminiscences and more.

We will host events to learn how residents want to contribute and interact with our archives. These will be in Baildon, Canvey Island, Colchester and Harlow.

We are also working with residents and organisations across Tendring.

Underrepresented communities will be a focus. This will help ensure our archives remain accurate and inclusive.
