Leaky dams to reduce flooding in Rochford

Clearing in a green forest on a sunny day.

We are building dams in Hockley Woods to reduce the risk of flood water reaching residents’ homes.

Leaky dams are be made of natural wood and laid within water channels. This lets steady water flow pass through while stopping high water flow.

The project is one of 40 across the UK to benefit from a £25 million grant scheme. In total, we have received £91,000 to build these dams.

The scheme will boost the country's flood resilience through natural flood management projects.

Construction is expected to begin in Hockley Woods in 2025. In the meantime, we will be assessing dam locations and monitoring techniques.
