Harlow Futures project expands

A group of school children are standing with Councillor Louise McKinlay. They are holding up colourful pieces of artwork.

The next phase of our Harlow Futures programme is launching.

Phase two will focus on early speech, language, and communication skills. This will support young children as they prepare to start school.

Pre-schools and childminders will be trained to deliver targeted support sessions. This includes the Talk Boost and Elklan programmes.

The Talk Boost programme uses short story time sessions. These can help children improve their reading and writing skills. Parents can also take the stories home, to support their child's progress.

The Elklan programme provides specialist training to early years providers. It will help practitioners to support children with speaking and listening.

We launched Harlow Futures in January 2022 to help give young children the tools they need to succeed.

The first phase focuses on mental health and wellbeing. Schools took part in programmes to support pupils with their emotional needs.
