Step 1: Contact us

Office hours are Monday to Thursday 9am to 5.30pm, Friday 9am to 4.30pm
Step 2: Attend an information event
We'll invite you to an information event, where you'll have the opportunity to:
- find out more about what's challenging and rewarding about adopting
- hear first-hand from an adoptive parent
- find out about the children waiting for adoption
- meet social workers and ask questions
If adoption seems right for you, we will ask you to fill in a 'Registration of Interest' form to get you started.
Step 3: Pre-assessment
Now you will begin the first round of checks and preparation, known as Stage 1 Pre-Assessment. This stage usually takes between 2-4 months.
Step 4: Training and assessment
Stage 2 is a 4 month process where you will:
- attend training to build on your skills
- be assessed by our team of experts
Together we will decide if adoption is the right thing for you and your family.
Step 5: Matching and placement
Once you are approved to adopt, a social worker will work with you to find your child or children.
It's hard to say how long this stage will take, as the right match is important.
