Social isolation
Social isolation is different to feeling lonely. A lack of social interaction can have a negative affect on your mental and physical health. It could increase your risks of:
- heart disease
- a weakened immune system
- depression
- cognitive decline, including dementia
The Essex Wellbeing Service (EWS) works to reduce social isolation by connecting people with a:
- wellbeing coach
- befriending co-ordinator
- community agent
- local volunteering programme
If you feel socially isolated, contact EWS to find the right support for you.
