Local groups for autistic people
There are lots of organisations that offer information, advice and practical support for people with autism and their families. You do not need to have received a diagnosis to access their services.
Advice and support
Autism Anglia is an independent charity that provides care and support to children, adults and families affected by autism.
The Local Offer website holds information about services available. The Local Offer is specifically aimed at people up to the age of 25. However, many adult support services can be found here too.
Special Needs and Parents can offer advice and support to parents of autistic children and young people.
Supporting Asperger Families in Essex (SAFE) is a support group for individuals and families affected by Asperger Syndrome and High Functioning Autism.
Purple provides a wide range of practical support services for people affected by autism, alongside information, advice and guidance services.
Essex charity SupportLine provides a confidential telephone helpline offering emotional support to anyone on any issue, including depression and anxiety.
PACT for Autism is based in Harlow. It raises awareness and makes information about autism available.
It also runs support and information helplines.
Dimensions is a not-for-profit organisation. It supports people with learning disabilities and people with autism to live the life they choose.
