Youth Justice Service

We work with children and their families and network, to help prevent and reduce offending and reoffending, and to create safer communities with fewer victims.

Overview

Essex Youth Justice Service works with children aged 8 to 18 at risk of offending or who have offended, and their families, carers and networks.

The Service is made up of :

  • four locality teams based in Chelmsford, Basildon, Colchester and Epping
  • a centralised early help team
  • a centralised Intensive supervision and surveillance (ISS) team

We work, not only with the children but also their:

  • parents
  • carers
  • families
  • networks

We make sure we listen to everyone and ask their views throughout their contact with us. Together we then consider and agree how we can achieve the best outcomes. Our ethos of transparency aims to build on strengths and help them make a constructive contribution to society.

We take a multi-agency approach working with partners including:

  • Children's Social Care
  • Child and adolescent mental health services (CAMHS)
  • Essex Young People's Drug and Alcohol Service (EYPDAS)
  • National Probation Service
  • health, education providers
  • local police

Our aim is to help reduce offending and create safer communities with fewer victims.
