
Essex County Council will be joined by Essex Police at a special event on July 8 to mark its commitment to make Essex the safest county in England within five years.
Cllr Tracey Chapman, the cabinet member with responsibility for delivering the pledge, will be joined by Essex Police’s Assistant Chief Constable Carmel Napier at the event at Tabor College, Braintree. She said: “Whether tackling rogue traders, providing treatment and support for those with drug and alcohol problems, or laying on a huge breadth of activities to keep our young people positively engaged the council is doing a huge amount of tremendous work to make our county safer.

An oil painting of George III has gone on display at Shire Hall in Chelmsford, after it was loaned to Essex County Council by kind permission of Maldon Town Council.
The impressive portrait was painted in the 1790s, and is 2.7m high. Recent repairs to Moot Hall in Maldon, where the painting was hung, uncovered some 15th century decorative brickwork, which has now been left exposed to view.
